My week

This is the week that the trees had their best colors.  Then the rain brought the leaves down.  Now for the yard clean up.
Tuesday was an Honor Flight so I must welcome them home with all the other veteran friends.
Bob Matteson was a long time friend of honor flight and former board member.  He used to come with his wife, Mary.  She passed away in September.

The photo that Sophie and I posed for along with other volunteers was published in our invitation to the Christmas luncheon for the volunteers (known as Samaritans)

Thursday was All Saints Day.  I left yoga class early to get to Mass on time.
ALL SAINTS DAY REFLECTION. Often I hear loved ones say that a deceased person has earned their wings. This is not the case. People become saints and can never be angels. Angels are spirits that never have a body.
Catholic Q&A #15: What is the difference between an angel and a saint?

I added my sister's name to the "Book of Life" that will be displayed during the month of November.

Friday evening I went to All Souls Day Mass.  Each year during the month of November, we remember our faithful departed in our weekly petitions, in the pages of our parish Book of Life, and at the special Mass of Remembrance on Friday, November 2.  Those that had an announcement in the bulletin for losing a loved one were invited and a candle with my sister's name awaited for me to take up to light.  The month of November is dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory.  Prayers for souls in purgatory can help them! While we can derive great comfort from the hope that our loved ones are enjoying Eternal Life with God, it never hurts to pray for their souls in any case.  I wore my sister's giraffe shirt to the service.  I sent her a giraffe shirt for her birthday a long time ago.

Amber went behind the couch and moans because she's stuck on the front side. I've helped her in the past to get out but she's still but not quiet.  It's because I keep my carpets rolled up behind the couch in the summer and the couch is not flush with the wall. Well, now that it's getting colder, I can lay them out.

Saturday, November 3, at 10:00, the 114th Regiment and Sons of the Union Veterans placed a bronze marker  for the "Last Union Veteran Buried in Menard County",  Onen Jensen, 7th Illinois Regiment, Co. I at the Indian Point Cemetery, Athens, Illinois. The Cemetery is located about 4 miles north of Athens on Route 29.
He was 91 years old when he died on December 27, 1941. In 1938 he attended the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.   Here's the group photo.

Afterward I went to the Old State Capitol.  The Soldiers Aid Society was collecting letters for soldiers just like they did during the Civil War.  I stayed for awhile since there were others there.  I didn't hear the times of the event at our last meeting.   The letters will be passed out to veterans organizations and the "Holiday Hero Drive".

I wrote a letter about "thank your for your service" and that veterans should not to let the expression  get watered down.
Then I went to a presentation by Gen Grant because it's the 150th anniversary of his election as president.
I came home for awhile and then tried to rake leaves before the rain but I didn't get very far.  The raindrops made me leave (pun intended).

Sunday morning, as I was getting ready for church,  I was watching the Mass on EWTN and during the consecration, someone was protesting/shouting on live TV and escorted out.  I don't hear very well and of course the closed captioning was not well other than "shouting".  I went to our annual Mostaccioli dinner and was full the rest of the day.

There are some photos taken at the film shoot on Abraham Lincoln in Illinois that I was an extra at last month here:

I only did the one day shoot in Springfield on Friday and then we did go to New Salem for the Lincoln -Douglas debate but not the New Salem 1830s photos on the second day.
